Territory Mapping CIC has visited our school on a number of occasions this year and have had a positive impact on many different levels. Working with our staff team, an entire Year Group and then a carefully chosen focus group of Year 9 pupils a range of exciting work has been carried out to add to our drive to raise standards and build a coherent vision of what we wish our school and all the individuals in it to achieve in the years to come. I hope Territory Mapping can now develop this work at other schools to allow more pupils and staff to benefit from a positive and lasting focus.

In early 2005 I spent an awe-inspiring five days on the Great Wall of China. The main purpose of my visit and that of the thirty or so directors with whom I shared the experience, was to analyse our own individual businesses through a process called Territory Mapping. Outside the constraints of formal leadership and management development programmes, it provided an ideal tool with which to communicate the vision I held as managing director for my business, not only to those like-minded leaders who joined me on the course, but more importantly, to each individual and at every level of my own company. In 2007, with a new employer and fresh challenges, Territory Mapping once again provided the ideal process through which to build and strengthen my sales team, by bringing together all twenty-four from across the country, acknowledging each individual, their different backgrounds, cultures, histories and skills. The benefits from clarity of a business vision and values through the development of a cohesive sales strategy shared by one team and progressed through open and honest lines of communication between every individual are invaluable. If messages are to be 'cascaded' down from on high, then by definition, let it not trickle from level to level, department by department or individual to individual, where dams can be built on the foundation of cultural indifference, politics and individual gain. Take away all the obstacles from each divisional stream and let the company vision flow down and out as one powerful message with clarity and purpose. Your very own 'Niagara'.

"Thank you very much for running the "Picture This" workshop for us at the Marsh Academy. Having reviewed the pupils' feedback I am delighted with the way the session worked to inspire and motivate them. Territory Mapping gave them an opportunity to express their aspirations in a new way and to identify the route they will need to take to get there. A number of the pupils have already expressed an interest in developing their ideas further with us, and it is thanks to your work that we will be able to help them set off on the right path. The session was a resounding success and we look forward to welcoming you next time."
Jason Martin, Gateway Director, South Kent Enterprise Gateway
"Thanks to Territory Mapping CIC the excellent presentation and interactive Territory Mapping session at the Beacon for Growth Conference held in Exeter in November 2006. The Territory Mapping process was extremely well received by the 250 delegates who attended, and I had some very positive feedback following the Conference. Paul delivered the presentation with energy and enthusiasm, and by using his coaching experience and skills he made sure that all the delegates were able engage with the Territory Mapping process, and benefit from the session."
Sue Baker, Project Director, Beacon South West
"Territory Mapping delivered a ‘business vision’ workshop to approximately 30 people on behalf of the South East Hampshire Enterprise Gateway. With the support of a number of coaches working with small groups, our delegates were provided with the opportunity to think freely about their businesses and business ideas without the constraints and worry of having to write a formal business plan. This creative approach sits comfortably alongside the work of the Gateway due to its inclusive nature. Participants came from a variety of backgrounds and circumstances which, in its own right, contributed to an exciting and productive day for all concerned. Participants left the workshop feeling invigorated about their businesses and ready to move forward."
Roopa Master-Coles, South East Hampshire Enterprise Gateway
"
Paul Cooper of Territory Mapping CIC delivered two sessions recently for the Women in Enterprise programme, a jointly funded Reading Enterprise Gateway and Social Enterprise Berkshire project. The 3 hour sessions were extremely well received by all those taking part. Through the territory mapping process, the participants were provided with the opportunity to express their business ideas in an open and relaxed manner. This inclusive approach meets the objectives of the Enterprise Gateway. The delegates came from diverse backgrounds and levels of business experience, but they all left the session enthused to move forward with their ideas for business creation."
Shemila Tharani, Director, Reading Enterprise Gateway
"Territory Mapping is an excellent and innovative way to ensure that your team is aligned and on message, so we decided to use it as the basis for our first two day, off site, senior team business away day. At the end of only one day, we had unanimously agreed our vision and strategy under Paul's expert guidance and coaching. What was so good about the process was the insight it gave us into each other's thought processes and ideas. It helped us to quickly agree the key action points we need to deliver in order to develop our future strategy and continue growing our business. Every one of us would highly recommend Paul and Territory Mapping to any company considering using this process in their own business planning. We will definitely we asking Paul to come back and help us again in the future."
Karen Browne, CEO, William Murray Public Relations
"As a true non-creative, I was unsure of the benefits of drawing as a means of understanding our project's challenges and goals. I did, however, find the session really very useful. I was surprised by how easily I found the process of drawing the map, and once the thoughts started, they kept coming.
The session really did enable free expression of thoughts, with challenges and barriers being openly and honestly discussed to a level that just wouldn't have happened using more tradtional methods."
Claire Brown, Project Manager, Supply London
"I spend my life under constant time pressure and rarely have the chance to focus on long term strategy. The Great Wall of China event gave me an opportunity to stop and think about the bigger picture without the everyday distractions of a ringing telephone and constant emails.
Being
with a group of like minded people in such inspiring surroundings was truly invaluable. I was able to openly discuss some of my barriers to progress and had plenty of time to start developing solutions with the help and support of other participants who were wrestling with similar issues."
Adrian Pearce, Spofforths
"For me, territory mapping is a totally new, exciting and fun approach to business planning. It enables the user to benchmark where their organisation or team is and explore where they want to be: what the goals are and who the target clients and partners should be. It’s a methodology that can be applied bottom up/ top down in any organisation. Everyone’s views are important and mapping your work territory with pictures is something anyone can do. It’s fascinating how everyone’s maps are so different; pictures are evidently more successful in articulating views more accurately than words!"
Leanne Marr, Development Manager
Tourism South East
"Thank you for a fantastic session. I feel that we have made big steps forward, and it is a very useful tool [Territory Mapping] for getting clarity on where we are, new ideas, and important next steps. The visual approach is non-threatening, and it allowed lots of important issues, like lack of board cohesion, to emerge quite naturally. I also appreciated your inputs and some great ideas."
Karen Twinning - Managing Director, IDE-UK
"I found that the [Territory Mapping] session helped me to understand what, as a board, we are aiming to achieve and what our priorities are. I also felt that I got to know everyone better. I, too, felt re-energised and focused."
Jenny Martin - Director, IDE-UK
"I found the seminar incredibly productive and rewarding. The combination of drawing my company's Territory Map on the magnificent setting of the Great Wall, combined with the stimulating conversations with the other participants, enabled me to obtain completely fresh perspectives that have helped me clarify what is really important for me personally and for my business."
