Unleashing children's future potential

Students at Chamberlayne Park School during a Territory Mapping Session
Territory Mapping CIC has recently developed an exciting programme for schools, designed to motivate and enthuse all children to map out their futures. Territory Mapping worked in partnership with Local Authorities, Education Business Partnerships and Enterprise Gateways. Although the programme had been designed to specifically help those children who are facing difficulties and challenges about what to do after their school education, it can be adopted by any child looking to "map out their future".
The Pilot Programme is taking place at a school in Southampton involving a group of 35 Year 9 children. The children have three day sessions facilitated by Sue Murkin a Territory Mapping coach. Each child has come up with ideas for chosen careers, or businesses and have been mapping out what they need to do to reach their goals. They are encouraged to look at their interests and what they enjoy doing and to see how this could be incorporated into their future working life - so far we have children aspiring to be Forensic Scientist, Vet, Paleontologist, Electrician, Architect, Lawyers, Dancers, Musicians to name a few.
Here are just a few of the comments from the children who took part...
The mapping is a good way of working towards what you want and finding out how to get it
Thank you, you have changed my point of view on my future
Thank you for the opportunity to look ahead
Made me more determined and make my dreams work
Its made me more confident
It was interesting and had inspired me
It was good!
I like planning and seeing opportunities
The mapping is a very good way for critical visualisation
I have learnt what I need to study to reach my goals
I have changed my career path and have set myself new goals
By taking part I know what I want to do when I’m older
As of today I will work really hard to get my future
I enjoyed planning my future because now I know what I have to achieve
Have learnt what I must do to get my goal
Territory Mapping CIC also worked with Year 11 children in Kent and here is what the Project sponsor said.....
"Thank you very much for running the "Picture This" workshop for us at the Marsh Academy. Having reviewed the pupils' feedback I am delighted with the way the session worked to inspire and motivate them. Territory Mapping gave them an opportunity to express their aspirations in a new way and to identify the route they will need to take to get there. A number of the pupils have already expressed an interest in developing their ideas further with us, and it is thanks to your work that we will be able to help them set off on the right path. The session was a resounding success and we look forward to welcoming you next time."

Territory Mapping CIC has visited our school on a number of occasions this year and have had a positive impact on many different levels. Working with our staff team, an entire Year Group and then a carefully chosen focus group of Year 9 pupils a range of exciting work has been carried out to add to our drive to raise standards and build a coherent vision of what we wish our school and all the individuals in it to achieve in the years to come. I hope Territory Mapping can now develop this work at other schools to allow more pupils and staff to benefit from a positive and lasting focus.
